In the journey of living with an addicted spouse, Christian wives often grapple with the balance between faith and self-preservation. While faith is a cornerstone of our lives, it is essential to recognize when additional steps are needed to ensure our well-being.
Today we explore the delicate dance between trusting in divine intervention and taking proactive measures to protect oneself.
Faith is undeniably crucial, but it must be balanced with self-protection. The story of snake handlers refusing anti-venom serves as a poignant reminder that while God provides miracles, He also expects us to take practical steps for our safety.
If this is something you’re navigating right now, I want to give you something gentle to hold onto in the middle of it.
I created a short, faith-based guide called “When You Feel Like You’re Losing Yourself.” It’s for the wife of an alcoholic who has been so focused on him — on his drinking, his moods, his chaos — that she’s lost sight of herself somewhere along the way.
If that sounds familiar, this was written for you.

Establishing firm boundaries and learning to detach are vital skills for anyone living with an alcoholic spouse. These practices are not about trying harder or being a better partner but about stepping out from under the weight of addiction to protect oneself.
It’s also important to remember that not all marriages are the same, and unfortunately some may end up involving dangerous levels of addiction. It’s important to discern when boundaries are sufficient and when additional help is needed. Abuse in any form should never be tolerated and must be addressed immediately.
Navigating life when your husband drinks too much requires a blend of faith and practical action. By setting boundaries, seeking support and help when needed, and recognizing the resources God provides, we can protect ourselves and prepare for future challenges. Remember, while faith is vital, God also equips us with tools to help ourselves.
If this hit close to home, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
