Navigating the challenges of living with an addicted spouse is never easy, and for Christian wives, it often comes with an added layer of complexity. In this discussion, we delve into the feelings of shame and loneliness that can isolate us, explore the unique struggles we face within our faith communities, and introduce a supportive space designed just for you.
As Christian wives of alcoholics, we often feel a heavier burden because we’re not supposed to have these struggles. Surrounded by seemingly happy marriages and idealized views of godly unions, it’s easy to slip into shame, thinking we’re alone in our trials. This isolation is exactly where the enemy wants us, keeping us from the support we need.
Shame and unanswered prayer often show up together. If you’ve been bringing this to God and feeling like He isn’t listening: Help for the Suffering Christian Wife — When Prayers Feel Unanswered
It’s disheartening to realize that even within our churches, there’s a stigma around addiction. Many of us fear judgment from our church communities, worrying about what others might think if they knew the truth about our home lives. Sadly, this fear is often justified, as many churches prefer to turn a blind eye to the issue.
The fear of judgment doesn’t stop at church doors. Many of us hesitate to attend support meetings like Al-Anon, worried about running into someone we know. The anxiety about what others might think of our faith can keep us from reaching out for the help we desperately need.
If this is something you’re navigating right now, I want to give you something gentle to hold onto in the middle of it.
I created a short, faith-based guide called “When You Feel Like You’re Losing Yourself.” It’s for the wife of an alcoholic who has been so focused on him — on his drinking, his moods, his chaos — that she’s lost sight of herself somewhere along the way.
If that sounds familiar, this was written for you.
