Many wives of alcoholics often experience a profound sense of loneliness and disappointment.
Today we’ll explore how nurturing a deep relationship with God can provide stability and comfort, especially when human relationships fall short.
Relationships naturally go through various stages or seasons. From the honeymoon phase to the more settled periods, each season brings its own dynamics. However, when addiction enters the picture, it introduces a particularly challenging season that can affect every aspect of the relationship. It’s important to recognize these changes and understand that this difficult period is a part of the journey, not the end.
Addiction profoundly alters the physical and emotional intimacy between partners. Many wives find themselves longing for the companionship and support that seems lost to their spouse’s addiction.
If this is something you’re navigating right now, I want to give you something gentle to hold onto in the middle of it.
I created a short, faith-based guide called “When You Feel Like You’re Losing Yourself.” It’s for the wife of an alcoholic who has been so focused on him — on his drinking, his moods, his chaos — that she’s lost sight of herself somewhere along the way.
If that sounds familiar, this was written for you.

It’s natural to seek support and validation from our partners, but people, by nature, are imperfect and will inevitably let us down. This is especially true when addiction is involved.
The key is to shift focus from relying solely on human relationships to seeking strength and comfort in a higher power. By nurturing a personal relationship with God, one can find stability and unconditional love that transcends human shortcomings.
Developing a deep, personal relationship with God can provide the foundation needed to withstand life’s storms. By doing so, wives with an alcoholic spouse can find a source of unwavering support that helps them navigate the emotional challenges posed by their spouse’s addiction.
By shifting our expectations from imperfect humans to a steadfast relationship with God, wives of alcoholics can find the peace and fulfillment they crave. Remember, Philippians 4:19 assures us that all our needs will be met through the riches of God’s glory.
If this hit close to home, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
